Skill Test in Stenography of SSC Stenographer

The Skill Test in Stenography is the second stage of the SSC Stenographer examination. This test assesses the candidate’s stenography skills. The candidates are required to take dictation in English or Hindi at the prescribed speed and then transcribe the same on a computer. The details of the Skill Test are as follows:

  1. For Stenographer Grade ‘C’:
    • Dictation: 100 words per minute (w.p.m)
    • Transcription: 50 minutes (English) and 65 minutes (Hindi)
  2. For Stenographer Grade ‘D’:
    • Dictation: 80 words per minute (w.p.m)
    • Transcription: 50 minutes (English) and 70 minutes (Hindi)

Note: The transcription is to be done on a computer, and candidates must adhere to the specified time limits.

Eligibility Criteria for the SSC Stenographer Exam

Nationality:

  1. Citizenship: Candidates must be citizens of India.

Age Limit of SSC Stenographer

  1. For Stenographer Grade ‘C’: Candidates must be between 18 and 30 years old as of the specified cutoff date. In other words, the candidate’s date of birth should not be later than the cutoff date and should not be earlier than the specified date.
  2. For Stenographer Grade ‘D’: Candidates must be between 18 and 27 years old as of the specified cutoff date. In other words, the candidate’s date of birth should not be later than the cutoff date and should not be earlier than the specified date.

Educational Qualifications:

  1. Candidates must have passed 10+2 (Intermediate) or its equivalent examination from a recognized board or university.

Stenography Skill:

  1. For Stenographer Grade ‘C’: Candidates must have a shorthand speed of 100 words per minute (w.p.m) in English or Hindi.
  2. For Stenographer Grade ‘D’: Candidates must have a shorthand speed of 80 words per minute (w.p.m) in English or Hindi.

Note: Candidates who are found eligible based on their educational qualifications will be required to appear for a Skill Test in Stenography at a later stage of the examination process.

Relaxation in Age Limit:

  1. Age relaxation is applicable for reserved categories as per government rules. The specific age relaxation for various categories (e.g., SC/ST, OBC, PwD, Ex-Servicemen, etc.) will be mentioned in the official SSC Stenographer notification.

Stage 2: Skill Test in Stenography

  1. Stenography Skill Test: Candidates who qualify in the CBT are required to appear for the Skill Test in Stenography.
  2. For Stenographer Grade ‘C’:
    • Language: Candidates have the option to choose either English or Hindi for the Skill Test.
    • Dictation Speed: 100 words per minute (w.p.m)
    • Transcription Time: 50 minutes (English) and 65 minutes (Hindi)
  3. For Stenographer Grade ‘D’:
    • Language: Candidates have the option to choose either English or Hindi for the Skill Test.
