JEE Main 2018 Eligibility Criteria

The eligibility criteria for appearing JEE Main 2018 is given below:

JEE Main 2018 Age Criteria:

  • Date of Birth: Candidates those born on or after 1st October 1993 are eligible for writing the JEE Main examination.
  • Relaxation: 5 years relaxation shall be provided in the upper age limit of SC/ST & PWD candidates (i.e. DOB falls on or after 1st October 1988).
  • Date of Birth will be considered as mentioned in secondary education board certificate.

JEE Main 2018 Qualification Criteria:

  • Qualifying Exam: It is must for the candidates to pass the 12th examination/qualifying examination with 5 subjects to be eligible for JEE Main 2018.
  • Subjects: The qualifying examination must be passed/appearing with five subjects. Candidates must have physics & mathematics as compulsory subjects.
  • No Minimum Marks: There is no minimum marks requirement in the 12th examination for writing the JEE Main exam. However, candidates have to secure the passing marks.
  • Passing Year: Those who have appeared and passed the higher secondary examination in 2016 and 2017 are also eligible to apply. Moreover, candidates appearing the final examination of 12th in 2018 can also fill the JEE Main application form.
  • In case if candidate appeared the 12th examination in 2015 but not passed in 2015, passed in 2016 are also not eligible.
  • Diploma Holders: Diploma holders may also apply for JEE Main 2018 but only eligible for admission to IITs. In other words, Diploma holders will be eligible for JEE Main so that they can further apply for JEE Advanced but not eligible for admission on the basis of JEE Main scores.

JEE Main 2018 Number of Attempts:

Total 3 attempts will be given for clearing the JEE Main. Attempts will be counted from the year 2017 onwards. JEE Advanced can be attempted maximum 2 times in consecutive years.

Eligibility For Admission to IITs, NITs, CFTIs JEE Main 2018 :

Percentage Marks: To be eligible for admission in IITs, NITs, CFTIs, candidates should have obtained75% marks in the 12th examination or must be in the top 20 percentile in the 12th examination of respective boards. The qualifying marks for SC/ST will be 65%.

The application fee varies for applicants depending on their Category and Gender.

  • The applicants can submit their fee through credit card, debit card, and e-challan.
  • Applicants those who are choosing e-challan mode would have to pay Syndicate/ICICI/HDFC/Canara Bank in cash.

 

JEE Main 2018 Application form

It is mandatory for all the students to read all the instructions carefully i.e (how to fill JEE Main 2018 application form) before filling JEE Main application form. Application will be declared by CBSE from 1st December 2017.

The application process follows three stages which are given as follows:

  • Filling all the basic information
  • Uploading images
  • Submitting Application Fee

Before filling the application form, you must have the following documents:

  • Scanned Copies of photograph, signature
  • Class 10 and 12th related information
  • Credit Card/Debit Card
  • Aadhaar Card

 

Stage I:

 

Filling the Application Form:

  • The first step is to register for the exam on the official website.
  • On the homepage, click on the “Apply for JEE (Main) – 2018”
  • Click on “New Candidate Registration”.
  • Enter details like Name, Father’s Name, Mother’s Name, State of Eligibility etc.
  • After you fill the required information, submit the application form.
  • An application number will be generated. This number is crucial as it would be required for all the further communications.

 

Stage – II

 

Uploading scanned images

  • After registration, applicants would be required to upload the scanned images of photograph, signature
  • All the scanned images need to be in jpg/jpeg format only.
  • Size of the photograph should be between 4 kb and 40 kb.
  • The signature image should be between 1 kb and 30 kb.
  • Dimension for the photograph: 3.5 cm (width) x 4.5 cm (Height) only.
  • The signature should be in between 3.5 cm (length) x 1.5 cm (Height) only.

Note – Documents exceeding the specified sizes will not be uploaded. Use image resizer to fit the specifications.

Stage – III

 

Submitting Application Fee

  • After uploading the images, applicants have to pay the application fees online through Debit/Credit Card or Net Banking. The fees differ for online and offline mode and reservation relaxation applies to categories
  • If the candidate is using Credit Card to pay JEE Main 2018 application fee, 1.20% of the examination fee will be charged additionally along with service tax as applicable
  • In case, a candidate is using Debit Card to pay JEE Main 2018 exam fee, a fee of 0.75% of the examination fee will be charged additionally along with taxes for exam fee up to INR 2,000 and 1% + taxes for examination fee more than INR 2,000
  • A candidate using SBI Buddy will be charged INR 20 per transaction plus the service tax as applicable
  • Using Paytm will cost 1.50% of the examination fee plus the service tax as applicable
  • The board also accepts application fee through E-challan. For the same, aspirants need to download the e-challan generated after the submission of online application form. Applicants will be able to download the acknowledgment page once the fees are paid.

JEE Main 2018 Exam Pattern

Here, we are describing the JEE Main Exam Pattern 2018. It provides details about the number of questions, subjects covered, marking scheme, etc. As JEE Main is conducted in two different papers. Check the exam structure separately for both the papers:

For JEE Main Paper-1:

  • Course: Paper-1 is conducted for admission to B.E./B.Tech courses.
  • Exam Mode: The exam mode for paper 1 will be offline (PBT) as well as online (CBT). Candidates can opt any one of the modes as per their suitability.
  • Subjects: The paper-1 will consist of Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics subjects.
  • Number of Questions: 30 questions will be asked from each subject with the total of 90 questions comprising of 360 marks.
  • Type of Questions: Only objective type questions will be asked in Paper-1.
  • Language: For all exam cities, the question paper medium choice will be English & Hindi (except exam centre cities in Gujarat, Daman & Diu and Dadra and Nagar Haveli where choices for question paper will be English, Hindi and Gujarati). The choice for question paper should be exercised while filling up the application form.
  • Exam Duration: The time duration will be 3 hours.
  • Marking Scheme: Candidates will be provided with +4 marks for each correct answer.
  • Negative Marking: In case of the wrong answer, one mark will be deducted.

For JEE Main Paper-2:

  • Course: Paper-2 is conducted for admission to B.Arch/B.Planning courses.
  • Exam Mode: The exam mode for this paper will be offline (PBT) mode.
  • Number of Questions: 30 questions will be asked in Mathematics (Part-1), 50 questions in aptitude test (Part-2) and 2 questions in drawing comprising of total 390 marks.
  • Type of Questions: The Mathematics and Aptitude test section will contain objective type questions. Drawing test will be subjective.
  • Language: For all exam cities, the question paper medium choice will be English & Hindi (except exam centre cities in Gujarat, Daman & Diu and Dadra and Nagar Haveli where choices for question paper will be English, Hindi and Gujarati). The choice for question paper should be exercised while filling up the application form.
  • Exam Duration: The time duration will be 3 hours.
  • Marking Scheme: Candidates will be provided with +4 marks for each correct answer.
  • Negative Marking: In case of the wrong answer, one mark will be deducted.

JEE Main 2018 Result

CBSE will release JEE Main (paper 1) result on 30th December via online mode. AIR for paper 2 will be declared on 31st May 2018. Through the JEE Main Result, a student will able to see whether they are eligible or not for JEE Advanced 2018. Students will get admission in IITs, NITs, and GFTs through this AIR (All India Rank). You will not receive results via Email; the applicants must check them online.

How to check JEE Main Result 2018?

  • Click on the link given on the official website https://jeemain.nic.in to get access to the JEE Main Result portal.
  • Enter Roll Number and Date of Birth.
  • Click on submit button and you will have JEE Main Result 2018 window.
  • Check your score and rank and download the Rank Card.
  • Applicants will also get to know their qualifying status for JEE Advanced 2018 through their rank card.

 

JEE Main 2018 Cut-Off

  • In order to be eligible for JEE Advanced and for admission to top colleges, students have to secure cut-off marks.
  • JEE Main 2018 cut-off will be announced after the completion of the exam. Meanwhile, students can check the previous years’ cut-off marks.
  • In the academic year 2016-2017, JEE Main cut-off is as follows:
    • Gen category – 105
    • OBC – 70
    • SC – 50
    • ST – 44

 

JEE Main 2018 Counselling

  • JoSAA/CSAB are the authorities which conduct the centralized counselling for admission to NITs/IITs/IIITs and CFTIs.
  • Admission will be offered to the candidates based on AIR and choices filled by them.
  • To get seats, it is mandatory for the candidates to participate in counselling and seat allocation process.
  • There is huge number of colleges in every state that also offer admission through JEE Main. To get admission in these colleges, students have to apply separately in state counselling.
