SSC JE Exam Pattern, SSC Junior Engineer Exam Pattern

The SSC JE (Staff Selection Commission Junior Engineer) examination is conducted in two papers – Paper-I and Paper-II. Here’s a detailed exam pattern for each paper:

SSC JE Exam Pattern, SSC Junior Engineer Exam Pattern

Paper 1 of SSC JE Exam

Paper-I is an objective-type paper that tests the candidate’s general engineering knowledge. It consists of three parts:

Part-A: General Intelligence and Reasoning:

  • Number of Questions: 50
  • Marks: 50

Part-B: General Awareness:

  • Number of Questions: 50
  • Marks: 50

Part-C: General Engineering (Civil and Structural, Electrical, and Mechanical):

  • Number of Questions: 100 (Civil Engineering)/100 (Electrical Engineering)/100 (Mechanical Engineering)
  • Marks: 100 (Civil Engineering)/100 (Electrical Engineering)/100 (Mechanical Engineering)

Total Marks: 200 marks

Duration: The duration of Paper-I is 2 hours (120 minutes). For PwD candidates, the duration is extended to 2 hours 40 minutes.

Marking Scheme: Each correct answer is awarded 1 mark, and for each incorrect answer, there is a negative marking of 0.25 marks in Part-A and Part-B. There is no negative marking in Part-C.

Paper 2 of SSC JE Exam

Paper-II is a conventional-type paper that tests the candidate’s specific engineering knowledge related to their branch of engineering. Candidates have to choose one of the following disciplines:

1. Civil and Structural Engineering:

  • Number of Questions: Descriptive paper, no fixed number of questions
  • Marks: 300

2. Electrical Engineering:

  • Number of Questions: Descriptive paper, no fixed number of questions
  • Marks: 300

3. Mechanical Engineering:

  • Number of Questions: Descriptive paper, no fixed number of questions
  • Marks: 300

Total Marks: 300 marks

Duration: The duration of Paper-II is 2 hours (120 minutes). For PwD candidates, the duration is extended to 2 hours 40 minutes.

Important Points:

  1. The Paper-I and Paper-II examinations are conducted in a written format.
  2. Paper-I is common for all candidates, while Paper-II is specific to the candidate’s chosen engineering discipline.
  3. Candidates should choose their engineering discipline carefully while applying for the examination.
  4. The final merit list is prepared based on the marks obtained in Paper-I and Paper-II.
  5. Paper-I serves as a screening test, and only those candidates who qualify in Paper-I are eligible to appear for Paper-II.
  6. Paper-I has negative marking in Part-A and Part-B, so candidates should be cautious while attempting those sections.
  7. The minimum qualifying marks in Paper-I and Paper-II are decided by the SSC and may vary from year to year.

Candidates should refer to the official SSC JE notification for the specific year they are applying for to get the most up-to-date information regarding the exam pattern and other important details related to the examination.
